HISTORY OF DOUBLE DUTCH
A Cultural Legacy. A Community Strength
Double Dutch isn't just a game, it's a movement deeply rooted in Black and urban culture, dating back to early 1900s. While traditional jump rope was brought to the U.S. by Dutch immigrants it was African- American girls in Harlem who transformed it into the rhythmic, competitive, and creative sport we know today.
By the 1970s, Double Dutch had become a neighborhood staple, offering a space for self- expression, rhythm and resilience. Teams gathered on sidewalks, in schoolyards, and community centers, turning ropes into stages where girls could shine, build confidence and connect.
At THE COMMUNITY YEREM Inc.
We revive this tradition as a fitness discipline and a life lesson, giving our girls a space to move, grow and rise one jump at a time.

"I needed a last minute camp for my girls this summer & this nonprofit organization welcomed them even in a last minute timeframe."
